English Dub Review: Mission: Yozakura Family “Clearing the Yard”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)With Taiyo heavily injured and Hazakura goons entering the mansion, Mutsumi must make a fateful decision. Meanwhile, the siblings hold off more of the invaders and Kyoichiro confronts the mysterious old man: Momo Yozakura, their father.OUR TAKEThat wraps up the opening wave of the Tanpopo saga (although apparently according to the wiki, there’s still one more episode left in this specific arc), with many major things changed forever and a lot left to settle in the weeks to come. The first big change is essentially fully confirming that the Yozakuras and Tanpopo are definitely at war now, as Makoto Kawashita is dead set on getting Mutsumi, ripping out her heart, and using it in his experiments with Yozakura blood to create super soldiers. Related to that is big change number two, as Mutsumi uses that Yozakura blood to get Taiyo out of his deathbed and supercharges him with his own new abilities (and Yozakura emblem emblazoning his right eye). He’s been doing pretty well without powers up until this point with all the training he’s received, but given how much the difficulty level has been raised now that they’re in this major conflict, it probably makes sense to give him a boost so that now he can keep up with everyone. The battles are only going to get tougher, the opponents only more deadly, and the stakes only further raised, so the new husband is gonna need to be on his toes, especially if he faces his father in law.Because big change number three is the confirmation that the old man working with Tanpopo who knows them so well is none other than the father of Mutsumi, Kyoichiro, and all of the other siblings: Momo Yozakura. Why he’s working with the group that murdered his wife is certainly a big question mark on many of their minds, and definitely mine, but what’s more important is that he will be a terrible threat to face in the episodes ahead. He’s already proven that he has the knowledge to completely pull the rug from under his kids if and when he chooses to, but he’s also a great fighter in his own right, as we’ve seen when he totally bodied Taiyo in the previous episode, but even more so when he totally no sells Kyoicihiro’s attacks here. Kyoichiro has basically been the yardstick for power scaling at this point, so anyone who can surpass him is not someone you want on the enemy side. But with eleven episodes to go, it looks like the family will have to deal with that and more as the Tanpopo continues to hit the fan.
