OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)As Natsu’s team regroups and Diabolos retreats, the clock continues to run out and The White Mage closes in on controlling Aldoron’s power.OUR TAKEIn what must be no less than a Halloween miracle (I’m pretty sure that’s a thing), we have been spared covering the recap episode, meaning I won’t have to force myself to come up with hundreds of words describing my hatred for recap episodes and having to cover them, as they only serve to cover what I already covered before. And as a bonus treat, we got a new OP and ED! I mean they’re basically the same as a lot of other Fairy Tail OPs and EDs, with some hints at some future battles, including against the Moon Dragon God who is in the arc right after this one. But yeah, a much appreciated and much needed week off from Fairy Tail now brings us back to the climax of the Wood Dragon Arc, already in progress. Fittingly, we see the destruction of the remaining two orbs sealing Aldoron, meaning he is free and about to bring down property values on his back very quickly. Also, Diabolos has fled for the time being (though foreshadowing a bigger threat with dumb sounding name), leaving the antagonist focus solely to Touka for the remainder of the arc. Well, besides the giant dragon who has now just become loose and is gonna be rampaging like Godzilla if you were living on Godzilla for a few decades and then he woke up.But really this specific episode is about clearing the board to make way for the final phase, which means wrapping up all the fights going on at the moment. Part of that is getting Diabolos off the table to fight another day as previously mentioned, but it’s also to give Wendy, the littlest Dragon Slayer, a chance to get the spotlight for once. I do remember Wendy well enough from my previous history with watching the first hundred or so episodes of this series, but clearly she has gotten some major upgrades in the intervening time that…I have no goddamn idea how to wrap my head around. Apparently she’s got a spirit of an older woman giving her power now? In addition to her having a transformation that gives her cat girl powers? I don’t know man, but it helped her defeat that weird guy who used his dragon powers way too much and became too dragon-y, which he apparently couldn’t go back from but Wendy’s spirit lady got him to turn back by sealing all of his magic temporarily. Hooray! Now onto the fights that actually matter.
