Review: Futurama “Otherwise”

When Fry proposes to Leela, he is overcome by a near-fatal attack of déjà vu.
Our Take
Great sci-fi is supposed to leave you with a lot of questions, so I can already tell the season 12 finale of Futurama may have people feeling a certain type of way due to the fact that in a very short 24 minutes a bunch of questions get launched that fucks with what’s canon or not canon and this will lead to a bunch of debates on the Reddits and whatnot. Personally, I’m actually kind of elated the episode from Nona di Spargement ended the way it did because just as soon as we’re introduced to this fucking multiverse pool I was like “oh shit”.
Don’t get me wrong, I love multiverse stories. But between Rick and Morty, late phase 4-5 Marvel movies, and even in videogames like Mortal Kombat, I’m friggin’ SICK of multiverse tales right now and just when I saw this pool I was getting flashbacks of last week’s episode and whether or not “Otherwise” was going to follow a similar path of messing with the series’ aesthetic. Fortunately, I was way wrong and the resulting story was very well-done and certainly serves fans of previous Futurama finales like “Meanwhile”.
The season finale also is officially placed, by me, as by far the funniest dialogue of the show’s 12th season thus far. Between Bender’s ridiculous battles with his arch nemesis, Zapp’s homily for a big marriage (I won’t spoil who), and the anti-climactic battle, it’s clear the producers of Futurama were throwing a big party send-off that had enough to keep fans wanting more along with helping fans be copacetic if this were the final hurrah (again). Fortunately, for us, more Futurama is on the way and we’re looking forward to more adventures…in…spaaaaaacee!

Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
