OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)Kazuhiko tries helping out another girl, Lemon, to confess to her crush, only for her to find out said crush only recently started dating another girl.OUR TAKEOkay, hang on, is this going where I think this is going? Because we’ve got another “losing heroine” who gets incredibly close to Kazuhiko, even ending up in a pretty cliche romcom situation of being locked up and sweaty and partially naked in a PE shed, and now has found out that her crush has recently been taken. With Anna, Lemon, and a third girl coming up, it really makes me wonder if this is all just set up for Kazuhiko to end up with a harem. And I know, on its face, that sounds kinda ridiculous, and I’ve been wrong before on making claims like this, especially early on. We’re only on the second episode after all. But boiler plate and nearly assembly line high school protagonists are pretty often there to be a baseline for audience self-inserts, especially in harem comedies, where the viewer can impose themselves onto said protagonist while they deal with juggling the attentions of the two or more girl options they get per series. Trust me, I’ve seen WAAAAAAYYYYY too many shows following this formula to not see the signs here, BUT…again, I could be wrong. We’ve still got ten more episodes so things could change very soon.Anyway, this episode was perfectly fine, yet again. The character designs and smooth animation do go a long way for keeping my attention, and definitely far more than trying to throw in a half naked teenager having a heatstroke. Like just…WOW, the bar is at the center of the earth there. But this is definitely Lemon’s story, though she’s basically going through the same sequence that Anna did, just having hope at the start that her crush won’t end up with someone else. And yeah, I’m sure we’ve all been there with someone we wanted to get to know better or thought we had a shot with overlooking us and going for someone who actually bothered to nut up and ask them out, so that part is understandable and even relatable to an extent. I guess the question now is how will Lemon, Anna, and the third girl who I won’t spoil but you’ve definitely already seen will handle these rejections and move forward. Perhaps by all suddenly wanting the attention of some walking cardboard whose name begins with an K?! Or, in more interesting option, they could all start a band that harasses all of their scorned crushes with loud rock music. Yeah, I’m changing my bet, that’s definitely the ending for this.
