Overview:
Alice goes inside Sade to help heal her loneliness.
Our Take:
If you’re an avid anime watcher then you’ve seen your fair share of “the power of friendship” and if you aren’t a fan of that trope I can relate. It feels like a cop-out at best and a deus ex machina at worst. But every once in a while, a show can manage to pull it off in a way that doesn’t seem contrived. What The Duke of Death and His Maid managed to do here was interesting and now I understand what they were doing with the direction a few of the episodes went. I questioned what they were doing but it all makes perfect sense. The Duke and Sade are a lot more similar than we would have thought, yes the Duke’s attitude problems were due mostly to the curse Sade placed on him but hey he still hated the world.
Due to all of the people around the Duke, however, he turned out quite differently. I quite like how poetic it is that the two people who did all they could to help Sade are the two people who were most affected by her curses. If anyone would want to kill her you would think it’d be them, but here they are fighting to keep her alive. Will they be able to succeed though?
