OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)Rimiru gathers the rest of Tempest together for their first big meeting since he properly became a demon lord.OUR TAKEOkay, I know that we have an established pattern of early episodes of a Slime season being slow going and having little in terms of big plot developments, but then we have something like this that practically borders on filler. It’s not quite as egregious as the show’s usual recap episodes that are just a bunch of narration about stuff that already happened, but that’s only because basically nothing of consequence has happened since the LAST recap episode only a few weeks ago. The most important things that happen which are only in this episode are the discussion of anti-magic barriers to protect civilians from dangerous monsters, which could have been brought up anywhere else and through any other means, and Veldora essentially saying he needs to find some space to let out a big magic dump. But hey, maybe I’m wrong and these things will come to be a major set up for big plot developments down the road, but I really doubt it. That said, I can absolutely see a turning point in a major battle being that Veldora just comes in out of the sky and lets out a great big magical fart that instantly kills all of the enemies in the vicinity, as well as making the area uninhabitable for a good few years after. As for the rest of the story, it’s basically the Tempest team reflecting on the recently started reforming of Falmuth and connecting the dots about the Western Holy Empire and their fake god Luminous, which we also see at the end of the episode is beginning plans of their own, likely to strike back at Rimiru. It’s looking like, based on the episode descriptions, that the next episode is likely going to be the more eventful story in terms of politically charged discussions that lead to greater conflicts. If I haven’t mentioned this already, I’m actually not that opposed to having talk heavy episodes where it’s just focusing on characters making verbal barbs and subtle jabs while being able make big world spanning changes if trading physical blows is either too costly to animate or just unnecessary. But this episode was not that, if anything it was the opposite. So, yeah, this was just an adequate, maybe even mediocre episode that could probably be skipped altogether if you want to shave twenty minutes off your binge watching of the show. See ya next week!
