Review: The Great North “Cheese All That Adventure”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)Wolf’s best friend Cheesecake loses his RV, so Wolf (and a reluctant Honeybee) try helping him get a new job. After an arduous interview process, he does manage to land one, but Wolf gets a bit too into making sure he keeps it. At Honeybee’s urging, Wolf decides to let Cheesecake make his own mistakes and try to learn from them. He DOESN’T, and is fired pretty much immediately after, but he ends up in an accident that gets him some settlement money, so he should be fine…for now. Also, Beef helps out his mutually-attracted-to-him friend Carissa at her new coffee shop by acting as an interesting regular to attract cruise ship tourists.OUR TAKEI guess it’s an Andy Daly double feature this week, as he voices Wolf’s friend Cheesecake here AND was the tour guide in this week’s episode of Bob’s Burgers. Maybe he’s in Grimsburg this week, but I haven’t watched that yet! Also our second Wolf and Honeybee episode in a row AND a marked improvement over last week’s! Probably because it ends up having a much clearer way of solving the problem (that being how to handle Cheesecake) that ends up requiring both Wolf’s dedication and loyalty to his friend PAIRED WITH Honeybee’s pragmatism and looking out for Wolf’s best interest. It shows why they’re a good couple and a good team, which is what I tend to like about them and episodes about them. As for Cheesecake (that is sure…a name), his constant incompetence is both funny and a little sad. His job hunt is also unfortunately pretty relatable as I am also in a desperate search for more consistent work, so that interview montage definitely triggered some flashbacks. But while Wolf’s willingness to help his friend is sweet, the ultimate lesson of letting those you care about go to learn things on their own is an important one. I really wish I could apply that to my own life as I am in my own Cheesecake Era, but oh well. And once again, along with the Bob’s Burgers episode we had tonight, the B-plot is also holding its own. In a follow up to Beef’s toe dip into casual sexual encounters a few episodes ago, it looks like Beef’s starting to inadvertently put the moves on his friend Carissa. I can’t remember if Beef had any previous attraction to Carissa, who I at least do remember being a recurring and established character, but it seems like they may be utilizing that for future use. This show doesn’t really seem to do story arcs, but it does make use of continuity, so maybe we’re seeing the start of a longer lasting Beef and Carissa romance that will develop later. Also feel the need to point out that Beef’s brief exchange with a guy at the coffee shop definitely mirrored a time for me at a Taco Bell where me and a stranger agreed to watch each others’ phones as they charged while we used the bathroom. Goes to show that these moments of human trust between strangers can be universal. Also also, I guess Dirtrude is really sticking around too. How many more appearances can they fit into this season?
