OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)Despite being suddenly taken aback by the possibility the Void Goddess may be Roselia, Leonis steels himself and gathers his forces to go on the attack. He gives Riselia’s family’s ghosts skeleton bodies to possess and has her lead them in battle. With the assistance of the other Platoon members and Arle the Elf, the Goddess is finally destroyed. Their mission completed, the spirits finally pass on and the Platoon heads home for some much deserved rest. Leonis still doesn’t have all the answers yet, but he plans to protect this new future with all his might.OUR TAKEAnd that wraps up The Demon Sword Master of Excalibur Academy, possibly permanently! It’s been a long road, getting from there to here, but we’ve finally made it to the end of the season. As I guessed, the thing about the big goddess thing being the reincarnated Roselia was just a fakeout, so based on Occam’s Katana, it’s more than likely that Riselia is the reincarnated form of the goddess with whom she shares most of her name’s letters. Not the most elaborate twist in the world, but this whole world is already pretty overly complicated already, so might as well have something end up being kinda simple. Also, with that, another one of Leonis’ old hero teammates that was turned into a giant abomination has been defeated, leaving I think five more? Not that we’ll likely ever see how that all gets resolved, but if things do have to end here, it more or less works. It’s still confronting Leonis’ past and intended mission to serve and find his goddess, but it’s on the grounds of Riselia’s personal tragedy and giving her closure on that by letting her use her new powers to fight alongside her fallen comrades and her current ones. This ties together just about everything the show has been building on since it started, so it definitely qualifies for a sufficient season finale at the very least. But there are some things that feel like they were handled kinda sloppily. For one, the stuff happening with the rest of the platoon and Arle ends up happening distantly away from the main battle, partially in distracting but not terrible CGI. Arle especially doesn’t feel all that important despite her sudden appearance a couple episodes ago, but she does at least contribute a major blow near the end before sneaking away after everyone’s home, possibly to set up some plotlines we’ll probably never see. Oh, and that white hair guy whose name I forgot seemed to just disappear, unless he got defeated last episode and I forgot! Also I guess Leonis still hasn’t told Riselia that he’s the Demon Lord of legend if she’s saying he reminds her of that eerily familiar legend. A legend that seems rather confused as to who the hero in it is if it portrays the Demon Lord as a savior but then says it was a happy ending when he’s defeated by an actual hero, but…whatever. Overall, a tidy enough ending for a just okay show. Next week, we look back on the whole dang thing!
