OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)With the full scope of their job and the stakes made clear to them, Andy and Fuuko are given their next task: rescue and recruit Unrepair as the eleventh member of the Roundtable. This teams them up with Tatiana, the Union member who lives in a giant metal sphere, and takes them to Rio de Janeiro to infiltrate a black market that sells Negators and UMAs. Turns out that changing all languages to English for non-Negators has only made Negators easier to find and traffick, making Fuuko wonder if that “prize” was actually good for them after all. But they don’t have long to think on that, as a rogue group of Negators who use their abilities to hunt other Negators have arrived, led by Rip, the man who tortured Unseen.OUR TAKETime for a new arc in a new location with a new member of the Roundtable to get to know! This episode is pretty much a warm up for the big moments to come, giving Andy and Fuuko some time to be cutesy with each other and reflect on how far they’ve come, as well as some time for comedic moments involving Fuuko causing unluck on Andy, which he still has no problem with as long as it eventually kills him. And as mentioned, we have Tatiana tagging along, who is already a very different character design from Shen, mainly because she’s inside a giant black sphere, apparently to suppress her abilities. That actually gives her some neat parallels to how Fuuko initially managed her own abilities, so hopefully there will be some moments between them relating over that. Shen definitely had more in common with Andy than Fuuko, so we have an opportunity to see more of Fuuko bonding with someone besides Andy for once. Also interesting that we’re instantly seeing some major consequences to the homogenizing of languages…and no real benefits for our characters. Weird how they introduced it that way only for it to end up this way but perhaps that means there’s something else to keep track of here. The end of the episode also introduces us to another type of enemy the Union will have to face: Negators who are willing to hunt their own kind for money. We’ve had our main duo face members of the Union, then a target the Union was willing to let die, then a UMA, and now other Negators who are just doing their own thing and out for themselves. So far, we’ve managed to have a different type of enemy with each major battle, which is neat in that it shows there is some variety in what the characters could be facing depending on the situation. On the other hand, it would also be nice to have some consistency, so maybe the next big fight will be between EITHER another rogue Negator or a berserk UMA (which is apparently pronounced “Yooma”?). For now though, I’m pretty interested to see who these Negator Hunters are and what their deal is! Apparently we’ve got another four episodes left in this arc, so hopefully they make good use of that time. And if not, well, we’ve still got another nine episodes after that to make up for it.
