Our Take:
Whenever I have two or more episodes of a series drop on the same day I feel like I do a disservice to you guys. For whatever reason it always feels like one of the episodes far outshines the other and I spend most of the review talking about just one of the episodes. It kind of feels like that will happen here too because the first episode was good but I would argue that second episode left more of an impact for me. In the first one we learned a little bit more about Stigma and how their rings might work.
While that is objectively probably more important than what happens in the second episode but it was more character focused. We learned a whole lot more about Pepesha and how she was raised. I will say that something that bothers me a little bit about this character is how her use of alcohol has been treated. She’s Russian so it feels like some-on-what of a stereotype and not only that but it’s kind of annoying that no one calls her out for it other than the guy who runs the orphanage she grew up in. Even he only tells her to be careful but doesn’t really say much else about it.
The most notable thing that was discovered about the villains is the ice girl who attacked everyone might be Pepesha’s mom. It’s anime so maybe it is a clone of her or something but I am looking forward to seeing how this plays out. Not discussing someone’s alcohol issues not withstanding it was still a good couple episodes.
