English Dub Review: Dr. Stone “Total War”

By David Kaldor

November 10, 2023

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)The Kingdom of Science makes its first big attack against the Petrification Kingdom, but soon find they’ve been duped as Ibara has learned of their plan. The islanders flee as the Medusa is planned to petrify the entire island, but Senku makes use of this to scour the village in search of the true ruler. Unfortunately, they find that Ibara has shattered the statue, and the rock is likely too degraded to reassemble, though Soyuz does now remember that he was his father.OUR TAKEOh shit on a brick, things have kicked into real high gear this week! So many things happened in a very short amount of time! The planned fake attack starts, then the fake Medusa gets thrown, then villagers head to the boats, then Senku and the gang head towards the village, but oh shit, Magma stole the gun! Well, okay, then they’ll just find the real ruler, but no! He’s crushed to bits! And he can’t be rebuilt! And Ibara’s gonna make a fake statue! But he’s Soyuz’s father! It’s basically like that for the whole episode and we’re only at the halfway point of the season. Three quarter mark actually, considering this is Part 2 of the season itself. This is the high stakes chess match that we’ve basically been waiting for this whole time and it is absolutely delivering. With about a half a dozen episodes left, things were obviously not going to be solved in twenty minutes, but I didn’t exactly expect the whole plan to have basically leaked to Ibara through Kohaku’s bluetooth earpiece. Actually feels like kind of an oversight on Senku’s part now that I think about it. But we do also need to see Ibara be legitimately cunning as the main antagonist, after all.And so the race is on to get these pieces of the ruler out of the village and possibly convince the villagers that Ibara is a usurper before the Medusa goes off. Or find the Medusa before it goes off! And then also deal with Moz who will likely be trying to obtain it to gain power himself! And then there’s finding Kohaku and Ginro to worry about! There’s just so many balls in the air and this is probably the first time the series has had to juggle so many at once! All this to say, yeah, I’m pretty pumped to see where we head in the remaining episodes. Everything is coming to a head, all the players are on the board and all the moves calculated for best probability, but now every faction involved has to start making big moves in order to stay even a step ahead of the worst possible outcome. It’s hard to really say much else other than there is a whole lot of interesting stuff happening right now and I am very excited to see how it progresses and eventually concludes. I am rock hard, pun very much intended. See you then!
