OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)Hanako gets a cold, and another character looks after a sick pink bunny demon.OUR TAKEThis week, we have two more segments, one involving Hanako getting a ghost sickness. The joke on the surface is that it’s strange that ghosts, who are dead, can even contract illnesses, especially ones that mimic the symptoms of a cold, but Hanako sure got it. Even worse, he wanders around in a daze and mistakes a fire extinguisher for Nene’s thigh, insulting her somehow! This is the extent of how far my analysis can really go here, folks. These are very basic and simplistic short skits with very surface level comedy, and even if I was acquainted and familiar with the source material, I imagine all I would be saying here anyway is just making references to stuff that happened there, in the actual story. But here? Hanako is sick with ghost flu and Nene is upset that her thigh was compared to a fire extinguisher. There’s jokes in there, sure, and probably easier to connect with if you know the characters and story. But I do not, and probably WILL not, so much of it is lost on me. Moving on to segment number two.The second half of this episode focuses on Tiara Minamoto, younger sister of Teru Minamoto, who looks after one of the pink bunny demons when it gets injured. Well, “looks after” is a bit of an overstatement. She tells it that it will be her slave and then bugs her older brother about it even when he’s trying to sleep. Oh, and also she wants to marry him when she’s older. I mean, she’s five years old and we all think weird stuff when we’re young, but I’ve also seem plenty of anime where those aspirations last way longer than is appropriate. Why am I focusing so much on such a minor detail that’s probably not as weird as I’m implying? Well, maybe it’s because, as stated, there’s simply not that much to really talk about here and I’m looking for LITERALLY ANYTHING to focus on. Overall, this one is just a fun little tale about a little girl and a little spirit she finds, and if you already like the show you may enjoy it. I thought it was just fine. Anyway, next week is (apparently, I’ll double check) the final one of these shorts, which will certainly be a mercy to me!
