Overview (Spoilers Below): Mash overcomes Abel. Other than Lemon, Mash and the others are overjoyed after the other students are released from being transformed into puppets. Meanwhile, Rayne confronts a member of Innocent Zero who disguised himself as Lance. But he is left behind, and the Innocent Zero agent escapes to go after Abel, who is no longer of use. A new threat creeps up upon Mash and his friends…!

Our Take: The final opponent of the season is upon us! As seen in the previous episode, it’s none other than a mage from Innocent Zero called Cell War, who disguised himself as Lance to infiltrate the school. The creepy mage sets off to kill Abel for failing to find something specific, while Rayne, who exposes his secret, is left behind to deal with Jon Pierre. Of course, Cell would have to get past Mash, who stands between him and the now-reformed Abel. Like the previous episode, “Magic Mirror” mainly consists of an exhilarating battle between Mash and his adversary, which also displays the latter’s abilities that test Mash’s physical strength. For Cell, he has Carbon magic that he used to kill Abel, only for Abel to be saved by Abyss. He is also shielded by indestructible carbon, so Mash can’t punch his way out of this predicament as he’s always had throughout the season. However, Cell’s latest spell, Spell-flection Mirror, is crucial to the plot. While it doesn’t work on Mash since it can only reflect magic spells, it does expose Mash’s secret of being Magic-less. Unsurprisingly, Mash’s friends decided not to tell everyone about his secret since the show is about friendship and kindness. Unfortunately, that damage is already done, as the 100 students free from Abel’s curse heard everything about Mash’s physical strength. From Mash’s perspective, this isn’t the best way to conclude his first year at Easton Academy, but that doesn’t mean his magical journey has ended. The series recently announced a second season slated for release next year, meaning that Mash will continue to fight to earn the title Divine Visionary. Not only was the finale a great way to end its first season regarding its humor and heart, but it also raised some interesting teases that’ll likely come into play in season two. Since everyone knows about Mash’s secret, he’ll have to work extra hard to survive his second year at the academy. There’s also the matter of the mysterious Innocent Zero, a group that believes that Mash is who they’re looking for. More importantly, where the hell is the real Lance, and what happened to Rayne and Jon Pierre? Seeing how much I enjoyed season one, I’m very grateful we don’t have to wait too long to reunite with the muscle magician. However, I also hope that season two will solve the finale’s unanswered questions.
