Overview (Spoilers Below): As Fukuchi allies with plans to create an international anti-terrorist organization targeting the Gifted, Atsushi and Ranpo appeal to him for help. Ranpo turns his immense detective abilities to the question of Kamui’s identity, and the truth will change everything.
Our Take: Ranpo succeeded in proving the Agency’s innocence, resulting in a war between the two police factions: one that believes in Ranpo’s truth and the other that doesn’t. However, that’s just one of the many problems they solved. The Agency must still find the missing page and thwart the mysterious Kamui’s plot to destroy the world. While Ranpo and the others regroup and treat Kunikida’s wounds, Fukuchi cooperates with the government to lead their anti-terrorist group to find Atsushi and the others. This would’ve spelled trouble for the Detective Agency, but that’s actually not the case. Thanks to Ranpo’s knowledge about Fukuchi’s history with Fukuzawa, Fukuchi eventually switches sides and helps Ranpo and Atsushi escape captivity and board the ship. Unfortunately, that’s when Fukuchi’s true self reveals itself, thanks to Ranpo’s unique ability. It turns out that the leader of the Decay of Angels is Fukuchi, resulting in a thrilling confrontation between Atsushi and Fukuchi. As for Ranpo, he hides inside one of Poe’s novels, knowing that Fukuchi’s ability is more dangerous than Atsushi realizes. Fukuchi can increase his power ten times from any weapon he uses, including his sword, which he uses to cut Atsushi’s leg off. Luckily, Atsushi has regeneration abilities, so he should be fine. Unfortunately, regarding his mental state, everything is not okay for the young tiger man, as his fear of being alone returns to cloud his mind. Despite not watching the previous seasons, I thought the series is doing a solid job in briefly referencing the character backgrounds for newcomers, with the episode’s conclusion being another example. Atsushi feared being alone, especially after being banished from the orphanage. However, his fear diminished when he had his Agency friends helping him out. It helps me grow more attached to these characters in this dire predicament without binge-watching the other seasons. Fortunately for us, Atsushi won’t be alone for long, as a familiar face from the Port Mafia arrives to help him defeat Fukuchi.
