OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)Emma returns to the mortal realm and tries to find a way back, but her parents don’t understand her and try to get her institutionalized, so she runs away. While running, she runs into the descendants of the Warriors’ previous lives, who bring her to Edred’s brother, who lets her use the Heart of the Forest to re-enter the Cosmic Realm, which it apparently can do. She quickly reunites with the rest of the warriors, but four years have passed for them since she was sent back and Rakshasa is dead. Emma regains Melinda’s power and suggests they all combine their souls in one vessel. They fight The Evil for a bit before Melinda finds her mother Morgan within it and they’re all sent back to Earth, where the past and the future are mixed up, but they recommit to stopping the Evil and finding Morgan.OUR TAKEI’m kinda impressed that I was able to make any of that sound even remotely coherent because going through the episode itself, all I could think was “WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING???”. If it wasn’t apparent by now, it DEFINITELY feels like there were some episodes cut and some plot had the smooshed. It’s like they had an episode where Emma was stuck back on Earth without her powers and she was maybe tempted to stay normal now that she has the chance, but then they start seeing the impact on their realm by what’s happening in the Cosmic Realm and she has to go through some mental and emotional trial when she reaches the Heart, then the next episode is the ACTUAL finale where she overcomes the trial, learns to empathize with Melinda or something and they rejoin and beat the Evil to some extent. Or at least, that’s just one version of what I think might have worked better because what we got is essentially nonsense. Information comes and goes with little to no context, characters turn on a dime about major decisions, one character has died off screen TWICE with little to no explanation for what the hell he even is…I’m just at a loss. This should be the culmination of Emma’s arc as someone from a normal life who somehow maintained her mind and spirit during a centuries old process that wiped out the minds of countless other people and…I don’t know, either merge with Melinda, or take over for Melinda, or even let herself be taken over or SOMETHING. She’s by no means the same demure posh girl who was about to get married in the first episode, she’s even been willing to completely leave her old life behind to be part of the fight, but despite that, I feel like I don’t know her very well at all. Even putting that aside, this process of how the warriors have reincarnated is still as confusing and vague as ever and Emma’s unique circumstances still are not any clearer in the slightest. What about Demitri and Alfie, who house Edred and Seng? Are they still individual people or are they just necessary casualties to get two bodies ready for the war? What if they need to fully mentally erase Emma for Melinda down the line? Well, none of that is getting answered in this season and I doubt any of it ever will. Oh yeah, and Morgan is not the evil but honestly who the hell cares?! WHAT IS THE EVIL ANYWAY BESIDES A BIG GREEN FART CLOUD?! Well, next week, let’s look back at all the other insanity we thought would add up by now.
