Review: Angels of Death: Origins “In the Company of Death”

Angels of Death: Origins has a lot going for it. This anthology take of a prequel series has been banger after banger, slowly expanding that expansive movie like series we got during season one.

“In the Company of Death” Follows two Blood Angels, Raphael and Kazarion, on their hunt for their missing battle buddy. In another moment of “The Imperium Fucking Hates Everyone,” their mission was to help a human settlement. Instead, Raphael decided to take Kazarion, and go find their missing battle buddy. After getting ambushed by some Death Guard soldiers, they finally make it to where they need to be. But their buddy has succumbed to the rage and chaos, and Raphael had to kill him.

This was not your normal “Imperium comes in and succeeds” trope. For once, Imperium troops fail. The humans die. Their commander that went missing ultimately died. In fact, Raphael ended up seriously wounded as well. This entire mission was a shit show of their own design. The only down side is that there’s nothing that we can see to see the lead in, or the aftermath of the 22 minute snippet that we did see.

The animation, just like everything else in Angels of Death, is top notch. The atmosphere of the black and white juxtaposed to the red of the blood and the Blood Angel armor makes everything so crisp. I marvel at the design choices, because you rarely see these types of choices. It’s either color vomit everywhere, or dull black and white. This is the design choice that needed to happen.

Ultimately, I’m glad that Games Workshop is using WarhammerTV to demolish the notion that the Imperium are good guys. This faction is fucking trash. They’re the MAGA trash of the 41st millenium, yet people still hero worship these dipshits. Games Workshop doing the Lord’s work, and destroying this false good guy mystique is wonderful. Please, keep this up.

“In the Company of Death” continues the wonderful storytelling that both Angels of Death and Origins has given us. We get a tiny glimpse into the Death Guard, which is a faction I’d like to see more of. We’re getting drip fed more and more factions of Chaos, which will only help people get more invested in the lore, which will get more people to spend more money on the game. So, Games Workshop, when do we get the T’Au Empire?
