English Dub Review: My Unique Skill Makes Me OP Even at Level 1 “Dead or Carrot”

Overview (Spoilers Below): A bunny girl named Eve attacks Ryota, but he survives thanks to his enormous HP stat. Then, Eve reveals that the real reason she came to him was because she saw him getting carrots from a dungeon, and she wants more.

Our Take: We were treated with an unusual surprise in last week’s episode regarding the mysterious bunny-girl Ryota encountered. The girl, who calls herself Eve, claims she hates level-one players, but she makes Ryota an exception by professing her love to him. However, Eve actually likes him because he has the carrots he collected from the dungeon. As we all know, bunnies are obsessed with carrots, and since Eve is a bunny…well, I’ll let you connect the rest of those dots. The first half of the episode sees Ryota distracting Eve with carrots to keep her from knowing how he got stronger despite being at level one. More importantly, it’s also to protect himself from being on Eve’s hit list, as everyone fears Eve’s incredible strength, mainly from her fatal blow known as Excalibur. Fortunately, the sight of carrots or carrot-based food Emily cooks up is enough to turn a ruthless killing machine into an adorable and harmless bunny girl. Additionally, the carrots approved by Eve are worth a fortune, so that should ease their doubts for a while. The rest of the episode involves three random scenarios regarding the characters confronting minor issues. One includes an experienced captain abusing his trainees in the Telulu dungeon before Eve sets that asshole straight. Then, we have a brief yet amusing segment involving Ryota and Emily attempting to buy a magic cart but left empty-handed due to its surprisingly high price. Finally, the episode concluded with Ryota and the others defending the town from a “stray”, a gorilla who spawns outside the dungeon and doesn’t drop any items. That is until it does after Ryota destroys the stray with a single punch. The item in question is unknown at this point, thanks to its cliffhanger ending, but I won’t be surprised if it’s something that’ll boost his OP skills even higher. His previous seeds increased his health and strength, so maybe his new item could boost his magic abilities. While “Dead or Carrot” still didn’t do much to get me invested in its “been there, done that” concept, it’s got enough endearment from the main characters to convince me to continue this latest isekai adventure.
