Since Blacktalon premiered, we have been witness to the absolute disaster that has been the relationship between Neave and Ulrich. You have seen times where Ulrich actually cares about his team, but other times where Ulrich doesn’t give a shit, and he will do anything “for the will of Sigmar.” At the end of “Scourge”, you see Ulrich carve out Neave’s neck, making her forget everything.
“Sorrow” finally shows us what happens when Neave dies, and is waiting to reforge. She is confronted with shades (literally the only way to explain these apparitions) of her team, walking her through every single time that Neave was murdered by Ulrich. I called it back in the first review when I said that Ulrich was a real piece of shit. “Sorrow” proves it.
There are countless murders at the hands of Ulrich. However, the mind fuck is that the names and locations change, but the story itself is the same. Neave slowly starts the descent into wanting to know who she was before becoming a Stormcast Eternal. As the search goes on, the obsession keeps taking over to where “Scourge” happens on repeat.
I think that Sigmar is going to conveniently forget to take Neave’s memory of everything. She’s going to help her friends and get them out of the absolute disaster they’re in. Once they’re in the clear, though, her and Ulrich are going to have some words. Then there’s going to be a really big fight. I think it’s going to come out that Ulrich did some really nasty shit for “the greater good,” which will ultimately have the team turn on him.
“Sorrow” was 20 minutes of much needed exposition. We finally got to see what happens when a Stormcast gets killed and reforged and the process therein. There’s so much involved with the lore of the Stormcast Eternals, and the mindfuck they go through before coming back. But then there’s the teammate (who I still can’t remember the name of…) who remembered a lot. So maybe it’s selective? I’m not even sure. There’s a lot that “Sorrow” didn’t go over, so I’m curious. Next episode’s going to be an absolute banger.
