Overview (Spoilers Below):
SpongeBob and Plankton must work together to survive an island of deadly monsters.
Our Take:
The Bikini Bottom business rivalry between SpongeBob and Plankton is highlighted once again in this week’s new episode. However, they’re not competing against each other like in the previous two episodes. Instead, they’re cooperating to survive against their common enemies: monsters.
The episode has Plankton trying to steal the Krabby Patty by disguising himself as part of Patrick’s back. However, his latest attempt quickly went awry when he became part of SpongeBob’s delivery service. Unfortunately, their trek for their destination cuts short when a strong breeze blows them away to an island full of monsters. As a result, SpongeBob and Plankton join forces to survive this dangerous island.
The humor consists of the duo’s attempts to find shelter and seek food. But each attempt resulted in them encountering a monster, each more terrifying and creative than the last. For example, they discovered a monster snail while checking out a dark cave. Then, they encounter a banana that’s also a creature. SpongeBob and Plankton also opened a coconut-themed restaurant when they discovered the monsters love eating coconuts. It’s then revealed that the restaurant is also a boat, which SpongeBob and Plankton used to escape the island, which is actually a turtle monster.
Overall, “Delivery to Monster Island” is a fun, monstrous, and wacky Cast Away-inspired episode and a mild improvement over the show’s parade episode. The slapstick comedy is enjoyable regarding the dynamic between SpongeBob and Plankton and the visual gags. The episode is also solid for its creative monster designs, adding to the show’s endearing bizarreness in its world and characters. In other words, it’s an enjoyable episode that’ll satisfy anyone’s monstrous appetite.
