English Dub Review: Utawarerumono Mask of Truth “Proof of a Ruler”
Overview
Tokifusa corners the party in the Great Canyon near Ennakamuy and tries to kill them to get back the Golden Seal…
Our Take
In Part two of this storyline, Oshtor receives news that the court had sent over 2000 troops towards Ennakamuy led by Mikazuchi’s flag and decides that they should head back to Ennakamuy. They use the fastest route to return. Oshtor guesses that Raiko and Tokifusa are working together and that they know where the hidden village is and will likely prepare traps on their way.
Tokifusa receives news that Oshtor’s group is moving as predicted and that they don’t have troops with them. Oshtor’s group gets attacked and Oshtor orders them to go ignore it and run. They see the river had dried and Oshtor states that’s good for them and then the group starts crossing it. However, as they reach the middle way, Tokifusa reveals himself and states this will be Oshtor’s grave and he is surrounded. As there is about an hour until dawn, Oshtor states they have plenty of time and then shares a plan with his group…
Overall, this was a decently suspenseful episode. The 2nd half was super lighthearted with Nosuri as the main focus. While not much happened in the episode I had a really good time, time flew by and by the time it was over I thought only half episode had passed. But I’m still wondering when will Haku reveal his true identity (or will he ever?). Because impersonating a dead friend even if it’s just to uphold his legacy arguably has immoral implications and comes across as a shitty thing to do…

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
