Overview (Spoilers Below): While attempting to make friends with Amu, Seika finds himself trapped in a dungeon with her.
Our Take: This has been an interesting first month for Seika Lamprogue. He not only impressed the other students with his abilities, but he also dealt with a gang of demons invading the academy. Additionally, we find out that the demons are after a “hero”, which is assumed to be Amu. So it looks like Seika has a new task in befriending the powerful yet stubborn student. His mission leads him to volunteer to deliver the student roster list to the forest with Amu so he can have the chance to talk to her. Unfortunately, their conversation cuts itself short when a magic circle transports the two to a dungeon underground. In other words, it’s another dungeon episode that isn’t related to an RPG isekai series. What follows is their attempt to escape the monster-filled dungeon while getting acquainted with each other. The plot then concludes with Seika revealing the perpetrator behind the magic circle and the cursed monster blood: Professor Cordel. Unfortunately, Cordel also happens to be a demon spy in disguise who’s plotting to use the monster’s blood to kill the students at the academy. Luckily, Seika was able to transfer the curse back to Cordel, killing him. As a result, Seika can finally live a normal life…for now, at least. The episode follows the usual trope of the characters fighting monsters in a dungeon, but it mildly compensates by further showcasing the characters, mainly Amu. Aside from the curse she’s getting that causes her headaches, Amu has an obsession with adventuring and fighting. However, because of her lack of fear, Amu believes she’s seen as a freak by everyone, so she hopes that going to the academy will make her feel normal. Although, after her battle with the demons in the previous episode, that is easier said than done. It was interesting to see a character like Amu acknowledge their love for fighting to be weird, but it’s also suitable in displaying its message about loving one’s self. The episode also showcased more of Seika’s feelings and goals, with him planning to make friends with Amu and reap her benefits. However, he still has issues with letting his feelings get the better of him due to him being betrayed in his previous life as Kugano. Although, Seika is more comfortable around Efa, who’s the only person in the family that makes his normal life easier, and he hopes to make her as strong as he is. Overall, “Dungeon Trap” is another enjoyable episode that uses its dungeon exploration trope to provide some character exploration. Aside from the CGI effects for some of its monsters, the episode delivers the action and the humor involving Seika and Amu. Amu undressing so that Seika can search for the cause of her headaches and Seika getting punched in the face by her were my highlights regarding the comedy. Now that another threat is gone and Seika gains Amu’s respect (sort of), the young exorcist should have no problem focusing on his schoolwork, right?
