Jason Clark, co-creator of Toonami, in a recent AMA on Twitter(still alive I guess) where the longtime TV producer let loose some notes about what fans can look forward to for the future of Toonami.
For starters, there are TWO unannounced series that are in production to go along with the five that have been announced, Two FLCL series, Rick and Morty anime (slated for next year), Uzumaki, and Ninja Kamui(coming end of ’23/’24). Jason says one of the unannounced is a BIG deal, so something to look forward to. Unfortunately, one thing we can’t look forward to, more Shenmue, as it sounds as though the chances of a second season sailed through two mergers. That said, a number of other series are in active development and are in various stages of coming to fruition.
The Rick and Morty anime is going to be an interesting use case. If the show doesn’t get an English dub, then count that as a colossal failure. The whole idea of Toonami from the get-go was to dub anime and allow viewers to watch the series in their native language that isn’t subtitles which can be problematic to viewers who are dyslexic, can’t read, or hard of sight.
