Overview (Spoilers Below):
Hana and Sakurai attend the college festival. While there, they decide to have their fortunes read at the Occult Club’s stand. Hana and Sakurai are surprised that their fortunes aren’t exactly what they thought they were.
Our Take:
There’s nothing like going to a school festival to brighten our day. Although with these guys around, our day at the festival is far from peaceful. The school festival storylines are one of the common elements you can find in any anime series, especially the drama and fantasy genres. Unsurprisingly, Uzaki-chan is no different, with the characters encountering more embarrassing moments during the festival.
Most of the episode consists of Hana and Sakurai attending the school festival because Sakaki is bribing them to come with a chance to win a game console in a raffle. Sakurai originally planned to stay home to play video games before Sakaki made that offer, and I don’t blame him. The school festival has the show’s running gag, a shocked cat, as its mascot. I would stay home too if my school festival had many pictures of that cat everywhere.
They later come across the occult club run by Ito, not realizing that the fortunes actually involve romance. When Ito proclaims that Hana and Sakurai are a match made in heaven, Sakurai immediately goes into an emotional shock, resulting in him having difficulty looking at Hana. On the other hand, this leads Hana to believe that Sakurai is hopeless without her. Although, these two future lovebirds didn’t realize that their day at the festival was planned out by Sakaki and Ami, who disguised herself as a club member to eavesdrop on their fortunes.
This is the first episode in its second season to focus only on one storyline instead of the multiple mini-plots from the previous ones. Despite that, it retains the consistent humor and fun, awkward shenanigans the show’s known for. Hana and Sakurai’s reaction to their fortunes offers its share of chuckles. However, the real laughs come from the ending in which Hana attempts and fails to get Sakurai to admit he needs her around. It showcases Sakurai’s inability to understand Hana’s signs in a way that’s both charming and hilarious. As Hana stated, Sakurai is an absolute idiot when it comes to situations like this. Hopefully, he’ll figure it out when the time is right.
