Overview:
A chance encounter with a stranger introduces Ko to nocturnal life. Ko follows her and why shouldn’t he? The night is still young.
Our Take:
I’ve been waiting for this one. I absolutely adore this manga so I was hoping this would get a dub sooner or later. The dub voice talent was great, I will admit to never hearing of Gabriel Regojo but I really like him as Ko. He sounds a little bit older than what I would think a fourteen-year-old would sound like but that happens from time to time in this industry. As for the other lead Nazuna, she is voiced by Natalie Rial. She has been in a lot of Sentai dubs and usually does a higher-pitched voice. Not since I heard her as Rui Tachibana in Domestic Girlfriend have I heard her use a deeper voice. She did fantastic, at first I was a bit hesitant but she captures the charm and mystery of Nazuna from the gate. I was hooked by the introduction. The only problem I had was that there seemed to be some audio distortion in the last half of the episode. Not sure if that was on my end but bears mentioning just in case.
As for the animation, it was phenomenal. Every time they showed the night sky I was blown away. It was absolutely beautiful and if that was just a taste I can only imagine what the rest of the season will be like. This episode basically served as an introduction to Ko and Nazuna, and why they become entangled. Nazuna is a vampire but unlike typical vampire lore, just biting someone won’t turn them into a vampire. No, they have to be in love with the vampire first, and now Ko wants to be a vampire. So, it looks like we’re in for a romcom with a fun twist. I can’t wait to see where this goes.
