Overview (Spoilers Below):
The Morticians Club plans Bertrand’s escape from the cruise ship his parents work on.
Our Take:
This week marks the last time we’ll be visiting The Loud House before it takes a brief hiatus. Since we’re also close to the end of summer, this seemed like a perfect opportunity to celebrate this occasion with a cruise. For us, it’s a relaxing way to get away from our problems. Unfortunately, for Lucy and the Morticians Club, it’s the opposite. The episode’s plot sees Lucy and her friends performing a rescue mission to save their former president Bertrand from a fate worse than death: being on a cruise ship for an entire year.
The humor in the episode consists of the Club’s attempts to sneak Bertrand off the ship without his parents noticing. They tried having a puking pelican fly him off the ship, carrying him off in a coffin, and using sunscreen to slide his way to freedom. However, those plans result in him landing in the water, with his father thinking he’s trying new things. Their last resort is to scare the guests away to cancel the cruise, with Bertrand pretending to be the ghost of Lake Eddy. Unfortunately, the guests thought their scare tactics were part of a performance, resulting in Bertrand’s parents signing for a two-year extension. Bertrand finally has the courage to explain to his parents how he really feels about the cruise, and they decide to let him stay with his Aunt Madeline.
“The Loathe Boat” is a minor improvement over last week’s episode regarding its enjoyable plot involving Lucy and her club members. It also delivers some decent humor, with Bertrand’s failed escape plans being the highlights. More importantly, it’s a suitable way to end the show’s streak of new episodes before its small hiatus.
