Review: Family Guy “All About Alana”

By John Schwarz

May 02, 2022

Overview

Alana Fitzgerald is actually one of Lois’ piano school students and when Lois finds out that one of her best students is in some sort of financial trouble, the family opts to hire her so that she can save up money for an application to potentially get into Juilliard.

Alana soon starts encroaching on Lois’ territory in terms of the household chores and even starts making waves with Peter, Brian, and even Meg. When Alana gets all of the money that was a part of the agreed upon deal with Lois, she turns around and puts a hit out on Lois.

With no Lois, Peter opts to marry Alana, but Lois survives her attempted murder and interrupts the wedding. Alana gets arrested but while in prison, the convict apologizes to Lois who now wishes she got the jail sentence.

Our Take

We knew a Mike Judge appearance was coming SOMETIME this season, and there it was! And as luck would have it, it’s in one of the best episodes of Family Guy in 2022. A lot of the plot points had been done before, Lois nearly dying, Peter learning that having Lois is the best thing for him, etc., but the narrated presentation of the episode sets itself quite apart from the pack. Throw in some musical numbers with Brian and Alana, a very small sprinkle of cutaway gags, and you’ve got yourself some quality Family Guy. Lots of laughs this week volleyed up more by way of non sequiturs than anything else, and no “B”-plot to rush through. Solid if not great stuff.
