or those who haven’t seen Disney+’s’ WandaVision…stop reading this right now….
For everyone else, you may recall in WandaVision the revelation that Kathryn Hahn’s character is that of Agatha Harkness and that the glowing book she possesses is probably The Darkhold. For those that don’t know, The Darkhold is a book of spells that was created by Chthon and had since been utilized in the live-action adaptations of series like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Runaways, the latter of which was welded by “Morgan Le Fay” who was portrayed by Elizabeth Hurley.
In a recent Fatman Beyond podcast, Kevin notes that the Darkhold was going to be a central piece in his animated adaptation of Howard the Duck for Hulu, with the titular character finding pieces so that he can get back home. He surmises that the reason why his show may have been canceled is because of this reason and, quite frankly, it sounds like the creator of the upcoming Masters of the Universe anime series for Netflix is totally fine with it.
That said, it has yet to be confirmed whether or not the aforementioned book IS The Darkhold, I (unlike Kevin who thinks the book could introduce Chthon) think this links more to the upcoming Doctor Strange live-action sequel more than anything else. With Scarlet Witch already confirmed to be in appearance, my money is on Morgan Le Fay making a come back in a pseudo reference to the 1978 Dr. Strange movie of which she is also featured in. If it’s Elizabeth Hurley, that would be amazing because she was awesome in Runaways, and now we have an excuse to introduce other Marvel Television bits like the Dark Dimension, Cloak and Dagger, and even Nico Minoru, the latter of which used The Darkhold to send Morgan back to the Dark Dimension.
As for Howard the Duck, it’s too bad that it was canceled because if it had anything like the freedom that Hulu’s upcoming M.O.D.O.K. had then we would’ve had another winner to look forward to.
