Review: Blark and Son “A Boy and His Chimpanzee Brother”
Overview:
In the Season 2 premiere, Son is riding high and mighty after Blark tells him he’s a man. That is until his chimpanzee brother arrives to challenge his manhood.
Our Take:
Another season means another step in the ever-lasting bond between father and son. There’s no better way to celebrate this step than with a crazy chimpanzee with a thirst for blood. While its plot felt similar to the episodes from other shows, it delivered the wackiness in its surreal predicament to keep me entertained for a good nine minutes. The amount of wackiness is due to the remarkable chemistry between the show’s creator, Ben Bayouth, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, as well as its humor. Bayouth continued to provide plenty of humorous moments as Blark and Mintz-Plasse did what he could to catch up with decent results.
Several moments from the episode made me chuckle with delight, most notably Son’s chimpanzee brother that Blark adopted. Seriously, that chimp means business, or should I say, “monkey business”? The only other thing that turned me off a little was the puppet designs. I’m not a huge fan of how they designed the characters, to be honest. My only guess is that they were attempting to make them look human, but with an uncanny approach. From my perspective, they looked a bit too uncanny for their own good. Seriously, it looked like their eyes were about to pop out of their skulls or something. It’s a good thing that the show’s approach towards the father-son relationship was entertaining enough to distract me from the ugly designs. Otherwise, it would’ve been unwatchable for me. Other than that, this was a suitable start for the show’s second season thanks to its wacky humor and the enjoyable father-son duo. It looks like Son has a long way to go to become a man like his father.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
