Review: Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout! “Part Three/Part Four”
Send me back to the Vortex.
Overview (Spoilers Below)
The final two episodes of this Mission Breakout mini-series is more or less a reverse of the first two episodes. It’s one quarter the actual show, and three parts with a completely different aesthetic. Bits this week include Quill getting stuck in a claymation short where he has to battle his own arm to escape a Milano ship heading for the sun while Rocket and Drax get involved with a 1950’s era-like adaptation derived from the classic Looney Tunes series of cartoons more specifically obvious influences coming from Wile E. Coyote, Tom & Jerry, and more. Last, but not least, Gamora and Quill are stuck in an 8-bit Castlevania-like experience that sees them battling all sorts of familiar foes.
To close out the four-parter, the team reassembles to battle the Groot-infused Black Vortex before escaping and ending up in a universe where all four Guardians have been killed off.
Our Take
Overall, the diversity of animation styles made for a much more enjoyable for the second half of the “Black Vortex” saga. The dialogue is still riddled with poor derivations from the MCU Guardians of the Galaxy, but the producers did a good job in infusing enough silliness from each of the different animation styles that you can actually watch this thing on mute and be totally fine. Looks like we’re getting Sunday night premieres for the Guardians of the Galaxy the rest of the way, so let’s see if this show can give us an exciting conclusion to the Mission Breakout run.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
