English Dub Review: Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2199 “What Lies Beyond”
Bed, Bath?
Overview (Spoilers Below)
This week’s episode gets equal time on both sides of the war including the Gamilians and the crew of the Yamato. Nothing major really happens with the exception of General Domel of the Gamilians being reassigned to the Milky Way after being called back from the front lines so to be tasked with stopping Earth’s last chance at survival. This comes to a head at the ends as the Yamato gets slammed with a torpedo from a space submarine.
Our Take
As mentioned, nothing major really goes down this week until the end when the submarine shows up. Most of everything else was just a bunch of nonsensical mushy dialogue centered around both sides possibly having some feelings of regret about destroying the other side, but nothing comes of it. One of the more impressive scenes was that on the Gamilian planet with their Gestapo forces quelling a rebel uprising which, together with everyone driving tanks all around town, are definitely building on a Hilter-like Nazi Germany in terms of a setting meant to probably aid you in picking a side in the battle, but as seen from a couple of weeks back when we had our hostage, Gamilians aren’t that much different than we are.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
