Tomorrow will be the streaming debut of Netflix’s Big Mouth. Because of this, we’ve decided to grab the official trailer, break it apart, and search for interesting tidbits of info and pretty much offer the viewer a guide of what they can expect over the course of the 10-episode series.
Big Mouth is a new animated series created by Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg, both of whom were childhood friends growing up. The duo would both trek their own paths in show business having stellar careers with Kroll appearing in a bunch of movies and TV shows and Andrew being a former producer for Family Guy. This show will actually show the duo during their pubic upbringings with Nick Kroll voicing the role of “Nick” and John Mulaney voicing the role of “Andrew”.
This also wouldn’t be the first time that John Mulaney and Nick Kroll would work together. Most recently, the duo co-created and co-starred in the Broadway smash hit Oh, Hello which wrapped earlier this year and received critical acclaim.
In terms of Big Mouth, you gotta love this obvious homage this scene from the trailer has to the cover of Nirvana’s “Nevermind”. Titmouse is actually helping produce the series, the studio is best known for a litany of excellent work including Metalocalypse, Superjail, Venture Bros., and more.
The premise of Big Mouth is all about kids, both guys, and girls, discovering their sexual selves at a very young age. Live-action movies have done this a bunch, notable examples including Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Pretty in Pink, and American Pie, but never has an animated comedy broached the subject, and really only Netflix could be the perfect partner for this series. While there have been some fantastic adult animated shows featuring teenagers, none really go as crazy as Big Mouth solely judging from the trailer.
Joining Nick and John as voices in the series, Maya Rudolph (Maya & Marty, Bridesmaids), Jason Mantzoukas (The League, Lady Dynamite), Jordan Peele (Keanu, Key and Peele), Fred Armisen (Portlandia, Documentary Now!), Jenny Slate (Girls, Lady Dynamite) and Jessi Klein (Inside Amy Schumer) are among those who lend their voice to the series.
