Review: Camp Camp “The Quest to Sleepy Peak Peak”
To Mount Doom.
Spoilers Below:
When the main trio asks Nerris for dice, they unexpectedly start off a magic feud between Nerris and Harrison. An earthquake rumbles through, and the Quartermaster explains how dark forces in the mountain need to be quelled- in other words, the volcano is active. Hearing about dark forces, Nerris and Harrison both believe they’re destined to stop it. They embark on a quest to stop the volcano, and Neil and Nikki join them.
In the forest, they’re attacked by squirrels, but Nerris saves the team by throwing her die at the squirrels. The lead squirrel vows revenge. They venture into the mines, and when the shaft begins to collapse, Harrison’s levitation spell jumpstarts the elevator and saves them.
The volcano is indeed active. Nerris tries chanting a spell to purify the dark forces but accidentally blinds Neil. Harrison tries to make the volcano vanish, but can only make tiny portions of it disappear. Furious with each other, they unleash their magical powers in a final battle. Meanwhile, the lead squirrel attacks Nikki, and pushes her into the crater. She cries out for help, and they realize they have to set aside their differences to help her, but it’s too late, and she falls into the lava.
Instead of dying, Nikki is shown to be flailing around in pudding, and all of the kids are actually roleplaying. The quartermaster is surprised that the kids didn’t actually go on their quest, as the volcano erupts in the background.
Overview:
Overall, a fun episode. It combines the fun of RPing with a parody of Lord of the Rings, Mount Doom and all. Usually Camp Camp ends up being wild and crazy, but for once this ended up being mundane. The kids weren’t actually on an adventure, they were just pretending they were. After all, as Neil points out, they are just kids. Even if it wasn’t real, the story the kids imagined up ended up being wacky and crazy, and a lot of fun to watch.
