Box Office Report 8/15/16: Sausage Party
I think it’s safe to say…this party was a success.
Just like when Batman chases the Joker, Sausage Party nearly had Suicide Squad in it’s mits for a first place finish, but the R-rated animated comedy juuuuuust missed by about $10 mil. Still though, anytime Seth Rogen can help a shitty movie die by 70% in box office returns week over week it’s a good thing.
Sausage Party has officially grossed about $34 million against a $30 million budget which, I hope, swings the gates open for the Wild West of R-rated animation to take hold and become a steady business in the film industry.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
