Review: Adventure Time “Broke His Crown” (S7Ep27)

From the start of this week’s new Adventure Time episode “Broke His Crown”, we realize this is going to be an Ice King-heavy episode. The episode begins with Marceline and Princess Bubblegum flying to go see the Ice King for dinner. Early on in the episode, Bubblegum sneers/sniffs and you get to see her nostrils, thus confirming yes, she really does have a nose.

Marceline pleads with Bubblegum to be nice to the Ice King (who Marceline calls Simon) and during karaoke, things begin to get weird as Simon starts flailing around wildly. At first, Marceline doesn’t believe Bubblegum, but when the flailing happens at dinner, Bubblegum knocks him out and they take him back to her lab.

The two girls strap themselves into a virtual reality type machine (fitting, I thought, with all the current vr technology popping up in the real world).  The two proceed to enter the circuits of the Ice King’s crown, and a pretty cool visual of the circuitry turns into a labyrinthine maze. We get to see different representations of what Simon actually looks like, and Gunther as a lizard, in true ridiculous AdTi fashion.

Of course the girls get to the root cause of the malfunctioning crown, and things are made right— leading the Ice King to conclude it was a good dinner party/date/whatever. There was no Finn or Jake in this episode, and I didn’t particularly like it much, but for fans of the Ice King or maybe otherwise, one may really enjoy it.
