Winners
By a mile. The studio was responsible for a number of panels happening this go around, including NYCC 2015 panels for Moonbeam City, Venture Bros., and quite possibly the show stealer, Nerdland which was announced at the studio’s own panel. Add in the fact the launch of MetalocalypseNOW launched, and Titmouse had a stellar weekend.
The FOX Network only brought one show to Comic Con this year worth seeing…and it was Bordertown. Mark Hentemann and Co. showcased an episode, and Hank Azaria with Alex Borstein gave NY Comic Con the closest it has ever seen in Simpsons and Family Guy panels as they adored the New York audience with voices from their trademark roles. Bordertown also jumps out in front of the race as the best new animated series of 2016.
Gonzo Green told me that this was maybe the best panel of the weekend, and that’s saying a lot. At the end of the day, the producers of Regular Show were heavy-promoting a movie that has been released in digital for a while now, but we also got a bunch of news for the rest of the year in terms of holiday specials and of course season seven.
Stoopid Buddy Stoodios
Despite the fact that our pal Matt Senreich couldn’t make it to Comic Con New York, Seth Green lead the studio to yet another solid con. Kudos to Crackle for promoting SuperMansion like mad during the course of the convention, and Robot Chicken geared up for yet another season on Adult Swim by wowing audiences with a teaser. Stoopid Buddy brings it every year, and that’s the way we like it.
Disney XD
Star Wars Rebels Season Two and Gravity Falls. Arguably the network’s two biggest shows showed up and brought SOMETHING. While the Gravity Falls panel wasn’t ground shaking, Star Wars Rebels came close to winning Disney XD the night by themselves.
Neutral
Adult Swim
We got two solid panels from Adult Swim and that’s awesome with Venture Bros. and Robot Chicken (Adult Swim will probably be posting both panels very soon, stay tuned). Unfortunately, we only got two panels from Adult Swim. You mean to tell me with Mike Tyson Mysteries premiering next month we couldn’t have had another panel? This was the network’s laziest Con to date, and together with the network’s rampant cancellations, that’s not a good thing
Losers
FXX
Where the hell was Cassius and Clay? No sign of Archer? How about showing some love for Animation Domination Hi-Def? FXX had numerous opportunities to display some awesome exclusives, but none of that happened, and instead we got a no show. Great way to build a network…hide it from everyone.
TBS
TBS had a bunch of panels, but none of them were American Dad! Last season, American Dad! was all over the place. This year? Nothing.
Indie Producers
No Bill Plympton. I was also expecting some Ralph Bakshi given Last Days in Coney Island’s imminent release, but that didn’t happen either.
