Spoilers!
There are some things that surprise me about shows nowadays. This week on Regular Show, Eileen’s borderline obsession about sea turtles surprised me. Granted, it shouldn’t because she is one of the quirkiest people I have ever seen in animation. Luckily, the obsession lasted until the end of the interpretive dance about the sea turtle egg hatching on the beach.
Regular Show is hitting on Adventure Time tendencies when it comes to continuity again, because it hit on what happened between Mordecai and Margaret during “Merry Christmas, Mordecai.” Again, something like Mordecai and Margaret kissing touched on, and it played a major part in the ending of the episode. I am digging this more and more with every episode I watch.
The emphasis on Margaret’s friendship with Eileen is what propelled the episode further, and it was rather genius. Margaret has been a forgotten character since she came back from college, only popping back really during “Merry Christmas, Mordecai,” and to see her on screen to be the counterpoint to CJ was fresh. It took me forever to warm up to CJ, and her introduction can bring forward a lot of awkward moments between CJ and Mordecai, and Margaret, just like tonight.
Youth-Topia was fantastic, and the fact that they used sea turtles to keep the old looking young again. The spa looked very unassuming when the group got to their gates, that you didn’t think of it. When CJ and Mordecai make their way to the resort from the beach, things got serious. Another thing that took me by surprise was the freed turtles torching the spa, and turning the old people so young, that they didn’t exist. Those Turtles made Woodstock 1999 look like a fire pit.
“I See Turtles” is definitely a step up from “Married and Broke,” and introduces badass turtles that can drive a police cruiser off of a cliff. I want more of them!
