Review: Mother Up! ‘The Comforting Hum of a Mother’s Love’
Spoilers Below
Rudi wants to understand her children a bit better especially Apple so she decides to take Susan along to try and act all paparazzi with her in an attempt to learn more about her. Dick on the other hand is an open book, but he’s having a tough time making friends. Sarah tells Rudi to take a greater interest in Apple’s day by going to the Parent Teachers Conference at School. After talking to the teacher, Rudi finds out that Sarah never goes out for recess, but on a more positive note she loves her mom.
Apple introduces Rudi to her friend the vending machine which inspires Rudu to ask Greg for help in stealing said machine from the school and bring it home. Greg agrees because his son Joel is all fucked up too so he thinks this may help. The duo hijack the machine and bring it home which makes Apple all happy. Eventually, Rudi gets bored and wants to play with her kids just like all of the other parents, but Apple is in love with this machine and Dick is preoccupied with his monkey. Rudi decides to ask Greg for help again, this time she wants a bag of squirrels.
Turns out Rudi is putting the squirrels in the vending machine to scare the shit out of her daughter which works like a charm. Apple tries to make excuses for the machine, but Rudi convinces her and Dick to go out to dinner. When they get back, Rudi voices the machine and starts hurling all of these insults at Apple. Rudi gets rid of her disguise and beats the shit out of the machine, but the squirrels get loose and force the girls out of Apple’s room in disgust. Thankfully, that’s why Rudi has Greg, right?
Dick wants to find more friends, so he starts Googling to see how so he buys a monkey and Rudi’s all about it cuz now her son has a friend. This monkey is territorial though as he forbids Dick from being friends with anyone else besides him which includes his mom. This causes the monkey to try and assassinate Rudi every chance he gets. One day, Dick heads to school after dealing with this monkey again so he decides to try and hook up the beast with his teacher. At dinner, the teacher shows up and right away the monkey wants to spank. Afterwards, Dick meets Agnus, a really smart girl that can throw the ball faster than Tony Romo.
This episode was a bit closer to week 1 where Rudi is the one tasked with having to carry the load of the entire episode, but similar to last week Dick really is starting to come on strong as that ‘bankable second character’ in which to build on. I’m still loving Greg and now that we got to meet Joel, I hope we see more of what’s going on over there. This was also the first episode where we got to see a BUNCH of Apple and I gotta say she’s cute as hell, but this week we learned that if she likes something she’s going to validate it no matter what. ‘Mothers Love’ started off REALLY slow though, like I had no idea what the premise was until at LEAST five minutes into it, however we seemed to get plenty when it was all said and done. The monkey was awesome, however is Mother Up! going to be similar to Family Guy in that we have talking animals on a consistent basis? Or was this a one time thing? In any case, I’m looking forward to watching more.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
