Comics Review: Simpsons Comics #206

Things are getting hot in Springfield…

Spoilers!

Smithers finds out that Mr. Burns has been spending time in another power plant, and Homer encourages him to get some answers. So Smithers goes to him, sobbing and crying like a kid. Burns gets him to stop, explaining that geothermal energy is the future. On his way out, Smithers sabotages the plant, making the volcano start to erupt. Everyone panics, and try to leave, until the lava circles the city.

The citizens decide that the dumbest person should be sacrificed to the volcano. After some tests and challenges, it’s a three-way tie between Homer, Cletus, and Ralph. Things get worse, and Lisa has an idea. If the plant is at its absolute worst, then throwing the idiots inside the plant can only do some good. After twisting every knob, and pushing every button, the plant actually manages to harden the lava. Mayor Quimby changes the by-laws of the city so that the dumbest person in town will be consulted whenever a major catastrophe threatens Springfield.

This comic had me chuckle pretty hard at spots. The parodies of Hunger Games, Angry Birds and Volcano were pretty on point. And the copyright infringement jokes got there as well. Other than that, this issue was kind of stale. There isn’t much to keep people interested in the book.  Smithers sabotaging the plant didn’t do it, nor did the idiots trying to fix it.
