What the Latest Promotions of Cartoon Network’s Curtis LeLash & Tramm Wigzell Means For Your Favorite Shows (And New Ones)

The chess board has been set, now the network just needs the pieces.

The year 2016 will go down as the year that Cartoon Network decided to take a match to a number of their classic franchises and set them on fire. Franchises like Uncle Grandpa, Adventure Time, Regular Show, and The Amazing World of Gumball are on track for finishing up their last runs on the Turner-owned network.

Responsible for the development grooming of these franchises into the merchandising titans they have become, Curtis Lelash and Tramm Wigzell have been promoted to SVP Original Series according to a new article over on Deadline.com.

The move is subtle, but it basically means we will see the two continue to develop and flush out new animation for both traditional and digital properties. The duo will have, what I think, is a transition year in 2017 as they introduce new franchises all the while saying goodbye to classic ones. The two definitely have their work cut out for them, as Cartoon Network has recently taken back the 8pm ET hour back from Adult Swim and have been using it sparingly for Regular Show, which means the pressure is on the network that much more to come up with more content.

In order for Cartoon Network to remain competitive with say a Disney XD which features animated content sometimes up to three to four times a week with HUGE franchises like Star Wars, Marvel, and the recently acquired Pokemon, Cartoon Network will have to buckle up and get down to the brass tax in terms of acquisitions and development of new franchises.
