truTV Orders Pilot Presentation For “Picture This!”
And here’s how you can be a part of it!
Stand-up comedy is a hot commodity right now. Netflix is investing big dollars, Comedy Central still does OK with it, and HBO seems to churn out a special once a quarter. So it makes perfect sense for truTV to kind of be “that” network for Turner Broadcasting and further differentiate itself from TBS and Adult Swim. While pure animated television doesn’t seem to be something truTV is into, it doesn’t mean they can’t take the two worlds of stand-up and animation and smash them together for our viewing pleasure.
That’s essentially what Picture This! is. It’s a stand-up comedy show where a comedian tells a story and then there’s video on a wall that showcases someone illustrating silly pictures that have to do with that story. It’s like Pictionary meets an animated docu-series like Storyville and I’m a fan because it gets exposure not just for stand up comedians, but your storyboard artists, animators, etc of whom like to do these shows as a way to make a few bucks between cartoon gigs. And let’s face it, California is fuckin’ expensive, no matter how many times people try to burn it down.
truTV has ordered a pilot presentation for Picture This! for Wednesday, December 20th @ Victory Studios in Glendale, California. The live show will be taped and you can get tickets for it here.
Hi Ashley, thank you so much for reading and we love the feedback. Note that on that day we had 14th posts go up and only ten posts show on the front page, so it's possible the preview had already been archived by the time you got to it. One recommendation would be to add our RSS feed to your favorite news aggregator service like Feedly, this way you get all of the latest posts!
