“The Boondocks” LIVES!-Two Seasons Ordered For HBO MAX

HBO MAX has given a two-season order to The Boondocks. That’s 24 episodes set to launch in Fall of 2020 with a 50-minute special. To top it all off, all 55 episodes of the classic series from Sony Pictures Animation will also be part of the streaming service.

The new Boondocks follows the adventures of self-proclaimed “Civil Rights Legend” Robert “Granddad” Freeman, and his two rambunctious grandsons Huey and Riley. The family has recently moved to an idyllic community in suburban Maryland only to see it taken over by the tyrannical Uncle Ruckus and his bizarre neo-fascist regime. Life under Ruckus turns out to be an everyday struggle to survive.

Our Take

We first reported on The Boondocks revival in June and now it’s got a home! Adult Swim programming will be part of the upcoming service which has officially upstaged NBC’s Peacock with the biggest streaming news of the week. Don’t be surprised if the linear rights show up on Adult Swim as well.

Of interest, no apparent involvement of Brian Ash, Carl Jones, or LeSean Thomas all of whom were a big part of the original series. Brian and Carl were seen last week or so continuing to tout their Fuse series Sugar and Toys.

Also of note, WarnerMedia is calling this two “reimagined” seasons which absolutely terrifies me.
