Ted Cruz Continues His Humblebragging Of “The Simpsons” Franchise That Never Works

He’s just gotta let this one go.

Despite the fact that Ted Cruz is prominently featured in the new Showtime animated series Our Cartoon President, the Texas Senator appears to be STILL campaigning HARD for people to know about his love of The Simpsons. Yesterday, Ted was at the CPAC conference where he talked with editor of The Federalist and prolapsed rectum Ben Domenech mostly about gun control in the wake of the recent Valentine’s Day Massacre that happened last week.

Among the highlight-worthy talking points of the conversation was this gem from the Senator that draws party lines in the sands of Springfield, more specifically, the Simpsons household, ” I think the Democrats are the party of Lisa Simpson and Republicans are happily the party of Homer and Bart and Maggie and Marge,”

Of the characters listed, only Marge and Homer are old enough to vote, but Simpsons producer Al Jean slammed Cruz on Twitter noting the Senator could make good use of Maggie’s pacifier and that even vaunted Republican Monty Burns might be interested in switching parties with the way today’s political climate is coming to a head. Former show producer Bill Oakley probably had the best reaction with this line:

So many things wrong with this:
1) Maggie = No way
2) Bart = Libertarian
3) Marge = Well known fan of Jimmy Carter and John Anderson
4) Homer = He may be Republican because the joke with Homer, as everyone knows, is that he is poorly-informed and reactionary in the extreme.

Watch the CPAC interview, most of which is the religious right’s desperate attempts to stay relevant in a country that is becoming increasingly agnostic.
