TCA2017: Talks For “King of the Hill” Revival Are Early But FOX Interested

YAAAAAAAS!

According to Variety, talks about a possible revival for King of the Hill on FOX are currently ongoing, but it sounds like there’s mutual interest between both parties (i.e. FOX & Mike Judge/Greg Daniels).

The original series ran for 13 seasons on FOX and was one of the real travesties of the Kevin Reilly era of FOX when the series was canceled despite strong ratings and a different animated audience whence compared to other offerings at the time i.e. Family Guy/The Simpsons.

Set in Texas, King of the Hill was an animated series that follows the life of propane salesman Hank Hill, who lives with his substitute-teacher wife Peggy, wannabe comedian son Bobby, and deadbeat niece Luanne. Hank has strikingly stereotypical views about God and country but is unpretentious and sees the world simply.
There are also five or six other animated projects in development over at FOX, but Dana Walden can’t figure out a way to squeeze in the new programming according to a report on THR.
According to yet, another report on IGN.com, Walden sees no end in sight for The Simpsons which bodes well for future seasons and more exciting ideas for burgeoning technology.
Our Take
Dear Dana, we’re averaging 20 episodes a year for Family Guy, The Simpsons, and Bob’s Burgers. With 52 weeks a year, that gives us a balance of 32 weekends to work with. Let’s say you even take out a couple of weeks for the NFL, you’re probably still getting a solid 25 weekends a year in which to slot new original programming. No one wants reruns of The Simpsons, Family Guy, and Bob’s Burgers anymore as those shows get plenty of syndication on other networks and streaming services.
