“Super Slackers” Animated Series Gets First-Look
Hope you kids are still into pot jokes.
A couple of years back we told you guys about a new six-episode animated series in development called Super Slackers with supervising director David Silverman (The Simpsons) featuring a slew of social media stars like Jerry Purpdrank, Max Jr., Dan Nampaikid, Jon Paul Piques, Olivia Sui and Arantza Fahnbulleh. Mickey Gooch has since joined the cast and is being written by Joelle Sellner (Sonic Boom) and animated by Pipsqueak Films with Mike Blum tapped as executive producer and director.
Well, it’s happening and it’s set to premiere January 2018 on a new OTT channel called 420tv. For those that don’t know, 420tv is a pot channel run by 420 Entertainment that will be on OwnZones.com and its mobile apps first, with an expansion coming through other internet distributors, and potentially linear TV networks and cable operators.
“Super Slackers” follows a group of friends who get a bag of pot that has been switched with a drug being used in a government experiment that gives them superpowers. When a Professor Xavier-type shows up to train them, they have no interest in saving the world. They agree to move into a rent-free government compound, but all they want to do is watch TV and play video games. The Professor is convinced he can turn them into the heroes that the world needs — but can he do it before their infectious laziness spreads to the rest of the agents?
Our Take
The original article that got this exclusive clip is written corny as hell, and I’m just hoping that Super Slackers doesn’t fall into that same old trap of old pot jokes and gags from 30 years ago. We, the people, are past all that and deserve a fresh take on cannabis culture that is primed for the future.
Hi Ashley, thank you so much for reading and we love the feedback. Note that on that day we had 14th posts go up and only ten posts show on the front page, so it's possible the preview had already been archived by the time you got to it. One recommendation would be to add our RSS feed to your favorite news aggregator service like Feedly, this way you get all of the latest posts!
