Shorts Review: Tuck and Ranger Episode #2

Spoilers Below

It’s the return of Tuck and Ranger, and like all of us, doctors advise the dog and kitty to get some fresh air and get away from their obsession with smartphones. And yes, the duo does get out of the house, but all they do is just take pictures, play games, and do all of the things that you could just as easily do at home on your phone. Eventually, Ranger ends up getting into a car accident after not paying attention behind the wheel and it causes a broken leg. Like a real broken leg with the bone sticking out and blood all over the place. When his cell battery finally gives out, Tuck goes nuts and starts hallucinating, but a bandaged up Ranger saves the day and shares his phone.

Do you know why this is one of the best shorts series? The titular characters are so god damn adorable which lulls you into a sense of security that quickly subsides the second you see bone breaks or cuts or bruises. It’s such an awesome dynamic and one that not a lot of animated television is doing nowadays aside from maybe the upcoming Mr. Pickles. The live-action scene produced for this episode is one of those moments when you know that producers Bart and Chris are truly trying to do something unique here and it’s working.
