Shorts Review: Red vs. Blue Season 12 Episode 11

Carolina and Church are back! So, why am I getting a flashback taste in my mouth?

Well, this shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. Considering that Church has been gone since Reconstruction, and Carolina’s been gone since around Relocated, these two have been sorely missed in the series. That all changed last week, when Carolina and Church saved this rag-tag group of fighters.

Spoilers!

At a possibly abandoned FAC Munitions Facility, a soldier is overlooking security cameras when a motion sensor detection went down. The radio goes off, and that’s HQ, telling him to put in a ticket for that motion sensor, or it’s the super soldier about to knock him out. It turns out it’s Church and Carolina, who broke into the facility to get a file. After a few jabs back and forth, three security goons breach the door. The transfer timer starts at 45 seconds, which is an eternity for Church. Church uses that 45 seconds and goes over everything the goons are carrying. Church has a bunch of other friends, Delta, Theta, the twins, Sigma, and Omega, who are memories inside of Church. They help Church analyze everything from gun specs, to door projectory, to where Carolina will get hurt. They even take Carolina’s sleep patterns into account.

The security guards would have Carolina dead to rights, but Church puts all of the data into efftect, and transfers it to Carolina. She is able to disable all three without any unnecessary kills. They bounce out of the facility, and Carolina puts together that Locus and Felix are working together via an intercepted message between Control and Felix and Locus. Church gets Carolina to turn around and go back to the guys, but Church needs Carolina to go to one more facility so they can get a short cut to the team. Yeah, it’s a teleportation grenade.

Where  this season has been mostly exposition, that took a back seat to Carolina and Church just being bad-asses in a Fed facility. This was almost completely CG, and it looked fantastic. There would have been no way for this episode to happen in game, because it required intricate movements that you just couldn’t do. However, the heads-up display bit when Carolina takes over was a nice touch. The episode was high on action, and indicates that we’re on the back end of the season. This means that there will be a lot more explosions. This episodes tell how Church and Carolina made it back to Tucker and the gang, and gave us what we needed to break up the exposition train.
