Shorts Review: Mickey Mouse – Eau de Minnie

This is the very first episode of Mickey Mouse that stars Minnie. Actually, the title card on this episode says Minnie Mouse in Eau de Minnie without mentioning Mickey at all. Girl power!

We join Minnie as she talks to Mickey on the phone, setting up a date for later that day. She promises Mickey that she will look, and smell, completely different. Once her date is set, she begins to get ready. First, she tries on a few outfits, including her pink dress from the Disney Jr show, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, which she deems too young. Ending up with her standard outfit from this series, a black top with a red and white polka dot skirt, she moves onto choosing a perfume.

I don’t think I have ever seen a woman with so many different perfume bottles. Minnie may need an intervention.

The scent she chooses is called Entrancement. Despite her reflection’s warning to not go overboard, Minnie sprays the stuff all over her body like a high school boy wearing Axe. However, where Axe makes women run the other way, Entrancement entrances everyone and everything. All of the birds want to perch on her, the flower lady stuffs her into a vase, even the buildings want her to walk through them. It finally becomes too much for the lady mouse and she jumps into a dumpster. Realizing that the dumpster stinks to high heaven, she rubs stinky garbage all over her body in order to chase away her followers.

But she still has her date with Mickey. She walks into the fancy restaurant draped in banana peels and smelling, well, like a dumpster. Mickey tries not to vomit as his lady asks him if she looks and smells completely different. Of course she does.

I love Minnie-centric episodes. I don’t love that they usually make her into a dumb bimbo. Thankfully, this episode gives her a bit of cluelessness but doesn’t make her straight up stupid. (I’m looking at you, Fire Escape.) It was quite awesome to see Minnie as the lead character, for once. I only hope this isn’t the last time it happens.
