Shorts Review: Captain Canuck Episode 2

Spoilers Below

In episode two of Captain Canuck, we find our hero in Toronto, making an appearance on InnerSpace, the SPACE channel’s daily entertainment talk and news show. While being interviewed by host Ajay Fry (providing his own voice), we learn that the Captain’s alter ego, Tom Evans, is no secret to the public. But why wear a mask? Being the vigilant and ideal role model that he is, he simply replies, “Well, you wouldn’t ride a bike without a helmet,” as he breaks the fourth wall to get his message across to all the children at home, “safety first!”

The interview is cut short when the Captain receives an “emergency message” from Redcoat. They’re off to Halifax to further investigate the events that occurred in Ottawa during Canada Day, after Redcoat’s prior assertive interrogation with one of the thugs.

After “dropping in” a warehouse, the Captain carries out what he does best: kicking ass and delivering witty comments.

While questioning Professor Walker (voiced by actor Thomas Craig), an old acquaintance of the Captain’s and an employee of Mister Gold’s, Redcoat’s ship is shot down, and Blue Fox “out-foxes” Captain Canuck.

Viewers are left on the edge-of-their-seats in anticipation of the next installment.

Although “Out Foxed” only runs three minutes (excluding the credit roll – which rock n “rolls” to The Watchmen’s “Stereo” – a slice of nostalgia for the 90’s generation), there is plenty of substance, and it doesn’t feel rushed.

Episode 2 premiered August 23 at Fan Expo Canada, and was subsequently uploaded to the official Captain Canuck website and YouTube.
