Shorts Review: Ant-Man “Not A Date”

Well, this was awesome.

For eons, Disney has famously fist-fucked the Marvel franchises of any ingenuity or uniqueness, instead, mass producing animated television that is usually a shell of the movies the shows are trying to aspire to be like. For the most part, the animated franchises all look the same and feature shit story-telling and monotonous voice acting usually consisting of poor imitations from the feature film stars.

So, pardon me if I’m over the moon about how good the Ant-Man shorts look. Normally, the Ant-Man character in the Marvel’s MCU-TV spinoffs are again sad imitations of the film counterpart, but this is different. The show…looks great. With characters looking more like their comic book inspirations rather than the shit Disney normally feeds us. The direction by Ugo Bienvenu and Kevin Manach is quite excellent, and the dialogue is a drastic improvement and that’s all thanks to Brian Wysol. Passion Pictures provides a vibrant setting that sets a stage for the Josh Keaton/Melissa Rauch voiced duo of Ant-Man and the Wasp that is leagues ahead of what Disney XD has been shilling of the character over the last couple of years.

Hopefully, these shorts will inspire a full series of just, it would restore my faith that there is a shred of humanity over at the buildings that Walt Disney built. Can you imagine, Marvel animated franchises on the level of say Star Wars Rebels? With smart writing and a stellar look that helps extend the franchises instead of ripping them off. Maybe Disney XD can release Marvel animation that has standards.
