ShadowMachine News: “Final Space” ; Cast Filling Out Nicely For “Highly Gifted”

The studio behind BoJack Horseman gets a new project, are they about to get a second new one?

Shadowmachine is one of the busiest animation production studios in Hollywood and deservedly so. These guys put out great product and Corey and Alex run a right ship. And while their newest series on Comedy Central, Jeff & Some Aliens continues to get weekly accolades from us, the studio isn’t sitting tight.

For starters, I don’t think it was formerly announced, but here it is. TBS’ recently picked up animated series, Final Spacehas officially been tabbed a project for Shadowmachine with an expected premiere date coming either late this year or sometime next year.

For those that don’t know, Final Space is a serialized intergalactic space saga about an astronaut named Gary and his adorable, planet-destroying friend, Mooncake. The series will follow their adventures as they embark on a quest to unlock the mystery of “Final Space,” the place where the entire universe ends.

In more Shadowmachine news, the studio behind the long-produced demo pilot Highly Gifted has been ramping up the casting news according to a new report from The Wrap. The Shadowmachine/Maker Studios series comes from The Lehrer Boys and is a semi-autobiographical show based on the Lehrer brothers’ years of being shunted to highly-gifted programs, where they existed in a precarious intellectual bubble within the larger school — an exotic and forbidden world, where people went on dates, attended sporting events, partied, and engaged in other exotic and mysterious rites and ceremonies.

Added to the cast is Drake Bell (Ultimate Spider-Man) as the voice of “Alan” a cheerfully supportive uber-dork who is always there with awful social advice for his best-bud, Dave, Ron Funches (Crash & Bernstein) as “Jerry”, a nerd with enough sense to know that you have to bury your nerdy passion for clipper ships and Monty Python under a veneer of basketball lingo and high-fives., and Kesha as “Tess” described as a progressive activist who lectures everyone about income inequality and environmental justice from her parent’s immense mansion and six-car-garage. It is unknown who will be voicing the role of “Dave” but you can check out stills and a trailer below:
